About Us
Welcome to Nada Coorey Psychology, where understanding and healing are at the heart of our practice. With 30 years of experience, we are dedicated to providing support and treatment for the wide range of emotional difficulties people grapple with.
We adopt the psychoanalytic approach to therapy. Psychoanalysis and the psychoanalytic approach to therapy are grounded in the belief that meaningful conversations can lead to profound healing. We promote the safe expression and exploration of repressed feelings and memories of painful experiences; we believe healing is possible when the meanings of these experiences are better understood.
Additionally, for those with psychological and physical injuries, we provide treatment under Workcover, ensuring you receive the support you need. We also understand the importance of accessibility in mental health care. We offer Medicare rebates under the Better Access to Mental Health Scheme, available through a referral from your General Practitioner or Psychiatrist.
We are committed to helping you create the changes needed for a stable and fulfilling life.
About Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
The psychoanalytic psychotherapy we adopt has goals such as treating symptoms of specific mental illnesses like depression and anxiety. It aims to identify and understand unconscious thoughts, fears, and wishes and how they contribute to the problems we present with. Its overall objective is to reduce suffering and build a stronger sense of self.
Psychoanalytic therapy creates the right conditions that encourage the processing of painful feelings that adversely impact one’s emotional development. This processing is intended to help one become more connected with the painful realities that have been repressed and feel more comfortable addressing them directly. Psychoanalytic therapy provides a safe setting that allows one to reveal what is painful, and to figure out a solution they can adopt long-term.
Why choose a Psychoanalytic approach to treatment
The overall aim of the psychoanalytic treatment is to make sense of one’s emotional life and its impact on their daily functioning. This approach is different from other therapies. Its focus is on the exploration of the conscious and unconscious nature of one’s significant relationships. It helps to make sense of one’s unique way of functioning and of the emotional life, and how they may have given rise to the difficulties one is with. The psychoanalytic approach to therapy is known to lead to long lasting changes in the personality. We achieve this by forming a link between the experiences of early life, and the here-and-now experiences established with those one has significant relationships.
This process typically leads to emotional healing and an increased sense of freedom; one is then better equipped to make better life choices.
